Dr Peter Matthews

Senior Lecturer in Inorganic & Materials Chemistry

I am a Senior Lecturer in Inorganic & Materials Chemistry at Keele University. I joined Keele as Research Fellow in Energy in Sustainability in December 2017, as part of the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) project. In July 2023 I was appointed as a Lectuer in Inorganic & Materials Chemistry and promoted to Senior Lecturer in July 2024. I studied for my undergraduate degree at the University of Cambridge, and stayed there to complete a PhD in Feb 2016 under the supervision of Prof Dominic Wright and Prof Ali Alavi. During my PhD my research was focused on main group doping of graphite and polyoxotitanate cages for energy storage applications. Following this I moved to the University of Manchester as an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow to work with Prof Paul O’Brien on transition metal dichalcogenides and main group two-dimensional materials.I joined Keele as Research Fellow in Energy in Sustainability in December 2017, as part of the Smart Energy Network Demonstrator (SEND) project. Dr Tiantian Fang

PDRA

Tiantian is from Shanxi, China. She graduated from Tianjin University in 2019 with a double major of BEng. in Chemical Engineering and BSc. in Construction Project Management. After that she remained in Tianjin University and obtained her Ph. D. degree in 2024. Her research focused on the synthesising and optimizing of two-dimensional nanomaterials, especially for the two-dimensional silicon materials (silicene & siloxene). She mainly explored the application of these two-dimensional materials on energy storage (supercapacitors & lithium-ion batteries). She joined the Cosgrove group as a Leverhulme Postdoctoral Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry in 2025, and her research will focus on the use of flow technologies to create inorganic 2D materials in a bottom-up manner.
